"The history of Qingdao University dates back to 1909. In 1908, representatives of China and Germany, Zhang Zhidong, Minister of Education of the Qing Empire, and Otto Frank, Sinologist from the University of Hamburg (German: Universität Hamburg), negotiated to establish a joint college in Qingdao. As start-up fund, the German government invested 600,000 marks, and the Chinese government 40,000 marks. On September 12, 1909, German-Chinese College (German: Deutsch-Chinesische Hochschule, Chinese: 青岛特别高等专门学堂) was officially opened. In 2018 The Affiliated Laboratory of Qingdao celebrates in 120th anniversary."
